Ok, folks,
We are getting closer then ever!

As of today, we have the new account set up with a high end dedicated server big enough to handle all of us at one time!
Plenty of room to grow too.

The new site is all done, all that is left is to configure the new server, lock the OLF down and transfer the DB.

Just a reminder:
YOU WILL NEED TO USE A TEMPORARY PASS WORD SENT TO THE EMAIL ADDRESS WE HAVE IN YOUR PROFILE TO LOG IN TO THE NEW OLF.

If that address is bad, you will NOT get a temporary pass word and you will NOT be able to use your current USER Name. You WILL have to reregister.

More later.
Lance

PS, The NEW OLF will have a function for posting videos. We will be starting a video section for just that purpose. That said, they can be posted in any thread.

Sneak peak.

NOTE: the edit function comes with a 20 minute editing window

Looks great guys!
I like the YouTube function.
This gives me a good excuse to put a vid-camera on the Xmas list.

Hesh,
Some time ago Comcast started blocking ALL emails that I send via my kragenbrinkguitars acct.
Everyone on comcast bounces back at me.
I also switched to to att dsl, so my "comast" email address is dead.
If you need me, you can always use lance@kragenbrinkguitars.com

That is weird - somehow they must have profiled you a sender of SPAM.  Can you tell me when that started?  and if it still does that?  I ask only because I am very familiar with their email platform, and may be able to help.  Then again, if you dumped them, it doesnt matter .

My guess is he had a mail server that was used as an open relay remailer.

Thanks Lance and Brock!!!

The "YOUTUBE" feature is going to be a nice edition to an already great forum!

I know ZIP! about what it takes to run a forum, but my guess is, it sucks up a lot of your time.

Thanks again, for all the hard work you guys do, and for making this such a great place to be!

Andy, it will happen shortly after we lockdown the Old OLF< it will become "read only" then we will snatch the DB, convert it, load it and test it. After that you will all get your invitation to the NEW OLF and also your temp password.
We are hoping this whole process happens in less than 48 hours.

If by that, you mean animated avatars, PLEASE, NO! If that happnes, I'm outta here... Sorry, but I can't read something with an object moving about next to it. Animated smileys are bad enough.... I have to hold a hand up over the screen right now because of Hesh's 5 smileys...

Hope the videos aren't going to play, or even load, automatically when we open a thread? That will kill all the dial up users.

What about out mailboxes; will their contents be transferred to the new version of the site? If not, it is probably a good idea to sort through the PM's and save what you need somewhere else (probably a good idea anyways...). Any tips on how to do this easily without having to copy and paste each message...?

Looking forward to the update!

I must confess, though, I'm with Grumpy about the animated avatars. Messes with my eyes. I have to scroll them up off the screen just to be able to read anything.

And, Mario, every embedded YouTube video I've seen looks just like what Lance shows in his screenshot. You have to click on the play arrow to start it.

Yes, to play it, but they always seem to begin to automatically load. Doesn't bother me much, I have a good connection, but I remember dial up well....

I'm serious on the animated avatars. Can't have them.

We had to disable the animated avatars here about two years ago. It was very distracting. SO to answer your question, No there will not be animated avatars.

Better still, can PM be completely disabled? Or in the very least, can we disable our own?
Comcast is EVIL! I run mailing lists which are by paid subscription (we're not spamming). Comcast is geared to take people's money, not solve blacklist algorithm issues. After 3 months of regular channel attempts to solve problems, I had to get execs from one company I know to call execs at Comcast to address the issue. Amazing. Best of luck Lance ...

Filippo
I hear you about comcast. I was using high bandwidth not sure the amount because i was running a game server for personal use between me and some friends around the country. They sent me a memo saying i was exceeding the limit. I pointed out there is no limit as described on your site. You sell your product as unlimited internet access and the TOS states no limit. They told me well there is one and I asked what the limit is and was told they can't tell me it. I wanted to know so i could regulate my self and try to stay under it. No deal. they wanted me to upgrade to a business account or they were going to suspend my account. Business account would be 600 hundred a month. i told them by-by and headed to verizon. They had no problem with my bandwidth use.
